Child GPS

Now that Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are available to all, they can be used for more than tracking transportation shipments or finding your way around town in a rental car.  One new application for this technology is the child GPS locater.

Rather than using the current satellite systems, a new type of GPS called AGPS (or Assisted Global Positioning Systems) uses local cellular towers to triangulate a location. A standard GPS unit requires the device to locate a space satellite and then determine the exact location of the device. This process could take a few minutes to acquire the needed information as it searches for the satellite location. AGPS acquires a location using cellular towers which are always connected to satellites orbiting in space. When you use Assisted GPS, the GPS Tracker pulls location data from the local cellular towers that are also receiving that information from satellites in space. It takes AGPS a few seconds to pull data from the cellular satellites to determine GPS Location unlike the straight GPS.  Since this information is stored in the Cellular Towers, your device’s location is calculated and transmitted faster, less processing power is required, and you can receive a GPS location whether you are indoors or out. This enables you to pick up a signal while inside a building.

As parents everywhere are concerned about the safety of their children, the use of this technology as a child GPS system for keeping track of their whereabouts is becoming more prevalent.  There are several different types of products that use this child GPS system for tracking.  On such device is placed inside the clothing, another is clipped on the child’s belt.  Yet another works just like the Dick Tracy wrist watch and is activated only when the child is wearing it. Some of these devices are small enough to fit inside the lining of clothing.

Another new application of the cell phone is to keep track of your children using the location software in the phone. One such service lets you know where your children are in real time. You can set up and manage “child zones” to designate areas where you’d like to receive notification when they enter or leave the area. You can locate phones with your PC or using your mobile device.

Just recently Google launched Street View which will display the location of the cell phone device on Google Maps. Many cell phone providers are adding this type of child locator as and added service to the basic subscription plan.

There are other child location devices which us RF technology rather than GPS.  This is a homing device that can lead a parent to tagged items.  This is a directional device that does not point out the exact location.  Instead the device “homes in” on the target and points in the direction of the transmitter. This device is especially helpful to parents with smaller children for use in parks and playgrounds as kids will wander off from parents as they are exploring their surroundings.

This site is centered around the Child Gps Devices that will help you keep track of your loved ones and keep them out of harms way.

Child’s GPS wristwatch

A company called Lok8u has created a GPS Child Locator device called num8 (new mate) which attaches securely to a child’s wrist. It contains an embedded GPS and cellular transeiver which broadcasts the child’s location.

Keep Track of Your  Child

Another heart-rending story and 2 children missing. I’d just like to let everyone know that if you’re worried about your child, do what I did and get a GPS child tracker device. I simply place a small funky device in my son’s school bag.

GPS Tracking System Can Save Lives

Fears were growing that the child had fallen down into a snow hole, or worse, injured an arm or a leg. Luckily, the resort was trialling the new GPS tracking devices through which instructors can track their students’ activities.
